Shino Vase Rahara

A bright, white, crack shino glaze makes a really interesting crisp surface on this vase. Each side has been pierced through to the interior. Iron oxide and a salt solution have been allowed to run out of these holes near the top and down the surface creating a combination of orange, black and metallic. The surface has been covered in organic material and clay before the first firing which creates a very textured surface after the organic material has burned away. This vase was created by hollowing out two volumes of clay and then attaching them to create an interesting, organic shape. (use the zoom tool below each photo for a detailed view)
